The Science of Opioid Withdrawal - Video


Opioid withdrawal develops after the body has become accustomed to a certain level of opioids. Opioids are found in certain prescription pain medication or drugs such as heroin.

Symptoms of opioid withdrawal include anxiety, nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain. While symptoms can be severe, they aren't life-threatening.

Treatment includes supportive care as well as medication to address symptoms and prevent complications.
